お釈迦様が誕生の際に発せられたと伝わる言葉「天上天下唯我独尊」。この世に存在する一人ひとりの命が、かけがえのない尊いものであるという教えを、蓮華座に座す仏の姿と共に描き上げました。
背景には円相のごとき後光を淡く配し、墨の濃淡だけで衣の質感と静謐な佇まいを表現。中央には金墨で「天上天下唯我独尊」の文字を大きく配し、下部には般若心経の一節を細筆で書き添えています。
素材には、日本の伝統的な障子紙と不織布を組み合わせて使用。紙の透光性と滲みを生かしながら、掛軸ならではの奥行きと余白の美を追求しました。
本作は2026年夏「アートインキュベーションNY」公募展に入選した作品です。

Description
"Tenjō Tenge Yuiga Dokuson" are the words traditionally said to have been spoken by the Buddha at the moment of his birth — an expression of the teaching that every single life in this world is uniquely precious and worthy of honor. This piece depicts the Buddha seated upon a lotus throne, bathed in a soft halo rendered in the faintest wash of ink.
The robes and quiet presence of the figure are expressed entirely through subtle gradations of sumi ink, while a soft ring of light glows behind the Buddha's head. At the center, the words "Tenjō Tenge Yuiga Dokuson" are inscribed in bold gold ink, and below, a passage from the Heart Sutra (Hannya Shingyo) is added in fine brushwork.
The work is created using traditional Japanese shoji paper combined with non-woven fabric, taking advantage of the paper's natural translucency and ink-bleed to bring out the depth and beauty of negative space unique to the hanging scroll format.
This piece was selected for the "Art Incubation NY" 2026 Summer juried exhibition.
